Be smart, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the old English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard amid a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French relocated south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is derived from the term for the non-winning throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. Many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn built the current craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he developed the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
