Be brilliant, play clever, and discover how to play craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps developed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard through a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French moved south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the nation. A good many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the current craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
