Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Modern craps come about from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s knights played Hazard through a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French moved down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
