Be clever, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps formed from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is believed that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French relocated down south and discovered safety in southern Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A few think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players could wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
