Be clever, play cunning, and master craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Current craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s knights played Hazard during a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French headed south and found safety in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is acquired from the term for the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the country. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
