Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is just about a century old. Modern craps formed from the old Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard amid a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French relocated south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically.
