Be clever, play smart, and pickup craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps formed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French moved south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was derived from the term for the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he developed the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
