Be cunning, play cunning, and discover how to play craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately one hundred years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard amid a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the English, the French headed south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the nation. A few consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
